Deterred

exclusion by design

[exhibit]

is an upcoming exhibition of responses to 'hostile architecture'.

These works cast as their subject the ornaments of deterrence:

homeless spikes
roosting modifications
'pig's ears'
privatized "public" space
anti-bum benches
pavement sprinklers

Our urban environments are increasingly armed,

prodding us into specific behaviors

and guiding the occupancy of public space by spear-point.
